We have private sleeping rooms available for interns and researchers doing short term intense study or MBA and PhD candidates interviewing at University of Maryland . They work many hours daily and require a good nights rest. The Norwich House tries to maintain an academic environment and is not equipped to handle the needs of tourists, children, pets and party animals.
We are not a hotel or motel . Regulations do not allow us to offer daily rentals.
Located in a safe patrolled college neighborhood situated among fraternity & sorority houses and directly across the street from grad student dorms. A safe area where you can walk after dark. Not "NEAR College Park" or "on shuttle route" or a "short bus ride" or "walk to Greenbelt Metro", but right in Olde Town College Park, a few blocks from College Park Metro Station.
We often receive requests from groups wanting to use sleeping bags in a room. It would be unfair to other guests to be denied use of bath, kitchen and common areas by overloading a room. All rooms are private one and two person sleeping rooms.

We are a 8-10 minute walk through nice neighborhood to Metrorail and MARC stations. I stress this because most of our guests don't have an hour or two a day to be wasting riding a connector bus to and from the METRO Stations. "Metro Rail" gets you downtown DC in 20 minutes - Metrobus takes over one hour. A Metrobus stop is one short block from house and one block from metro station. Taxi from metro station to house is around $5. Ask driver for exact fare. It's just 6 short blocks walking, but longer by taxi. These are not those long city blocks. You can see train go by from in front of house.
METRO & MARC provide transportation via rail and bus to all areas of the Washington area including airports, Greyhound bus station ,Union Station (train ) and Baltimore.
Make sure you have everyday bus service to Metro Rail Station if you choose a place not within walking distance to a Metro Rail Station. Many connector buses do not operate or have limited services at nights and on weekends. Taxis are usually available at Metro Stations.

How far ahead should I make a reservation?
Summer interns should have a confirmed reservation by Easter. Easter holiday brings thousands of summer interns to Washington to secure summer housing. We are usually booked for summer by mid-March
It's difficult to find any housing for September. Thousands of returning students return and reclaim the apartments/rooms they sublet out during their summer vacations. Rooms for September should be booked by June 1. Please take this seriously if you plan to arrive in September!
October - April visitors should book at least one month in advance.
All reservation cancellations and changes accepted by email only.
I offer reasonable rate lodging to interns and researchers who usually know the length of their visit. I do not charge tourist prices and can't afford an empty room caused by a last minute cancellation. Our refund policy is stated below (#1 & #2)
#1. 100% refund with 60 or more days notice of cancellation.
#2.No refunds if cancellation date is less than 60 days from arrival date. However, we will refund 75% of your deposit if we are able to find an acceptable party for your reservation dates. No refunds for nights we can not fill.
#3.Not sure how long you will need to visit? Pay for known length of visit. After you arrive, you may pay deposit for addition time if room is available. Washington is a busy town year round. It is advisable to book your "private room-walk to Metrorail" short term lodging in the Washington DC area 2 months prior if your arrival is between May & November, but no less than a month before if you expect to arrive December - April.
